17 Best Things To Do In Manhattan, New York

Manhattan, New York
Manhattan, New York

New York is one incredible city to visit, specially with all the cool areas of the city to explore. There are so many things to do, but if you are only visiting the city for a few days then this is exactly why I wanted to share some of the best things to do in Manhattan.

So, let's get started: take a look at some of the best places to visit in Manhattan, the city that never sleeps.

1. Top of the rock

✔ It is the observatory of the Rockefeller Center building complex.

Although it is not as high as the Empire State Building, the views from its observation deck are nothing to envy. Plus it has the added bonus that from it there is a breathtaking view of the Empire State and Central Park. If you want to go, remember to book the tickets in advance!

2. Vessel

✔ It's a mega staircase structure installed in the new Hudson Yards neighborhood.

✔ The cool thing is to climb up to level 16 which is the highest, choosing your own path.

✔ Tickets are free but you have to book in advance is their website.

✔ You may only be able to access the first floor when you go, but not go up (make sure before you go) - this happened to us.

🧭Midtown

📍Public Square and Gardens at Hudson Yards.

🥘Next to the Vessel you will find Little Spain: a Spanish restaurant from the famous chef José Andrés.

3. The Edge

✔ The Edge is one of New York City's newest observatories (opened March 11, 2020).

✔ It is the tallest open-air observatory in New York and the Western Hemisphere. It is located on the 100th floor of the building, at a height of 345 meters.

✔ It offers 360º views over the city.

✔The terrace is flanked by huge 3-meter glass panes that slope slightly outward.

✔In the central part of the terrace is the Glass floor, a 20-square-meter glass floor in the shape of a triangle from which we can take pictures with, literally, New York at our feet.

Price: Web The Edge- 39,20$.

📍30 Hudson Yards

4. Grand Central Terminal

✔ It is the most iconic train station in New York. .

✔ Don't miss every detail of its decoration because you will love it, and don't forget to look at the ceiling 😍.

✔ Close to the Chrysler Building, which is one of my favorites skyscrapers in Manhattan.

🧭Midtown

📍89 E 42nd St (between Park Ave and Lexington Ave).

5. High Line

It is a park built on the old train tracks. The neighbors of the neighborhood were determined to preserve the area and turn it into a peculiar park that runs on the heights. They succeeded and now the High Line is an essential part of the city.

🧭 Chelsea and Meatpacking District

📍It has different accesses. You can see them all in the article I wrote about this park.

6. Chelsea Market

One of the best food markets in the city. Former oreo factory. Located in the heart of NYC, the market is more than just food hall, but rather it's a lively marketplace: where you'll find meat, cheese, fish, and fresh products. A highly recommended stop.

7. Little Island

✔ Little Island is a park built on the Hudson River on what used to be an old pier: Pier 55, where the Cunard and White Star cruise lines operated. Ships arriving here brought passengers from different parts of the world.

A curious fact: it was where the survivors of the Titanic arrived in 1912. if everything had gone well during the journey their destination would have been the nearby Pier 59, which was where the Titanic shipping line operated, but as they were rescued by the Carpathian, which belonged to Cunard, they disembarked on what is now Little Island.

✔ It is anchored to land with original funnel-shaped structures.

🧭Meatpacking District.

📍Pier 55 at Hudson River Park and West 13th Street.

8. Flatiron

The unique Flatiron building is called this way because its shape is similar to that of the old planks.

🧭Flatiron District.

📍175 Fifth Avenue. You'll find it towering in front of Madison Sq. Park.

9. Empire State Building

✔ It is one of the symbols of New York for its own beauty and for the great prominence given to it by the cinema throughout its history (King Kong).

✔ The Empire State's greatest attraction is its observatory, which offers a breathtaking view of the city from a height of 102 floors.

🧭Midtown

10. Intrepid Museum

✔ An American military and maritime history museum featuring the aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise and the world's fastest jets. With the ticket you'll also be able to experience a guided tour through a submarine!

📍Pier 86, W 46th St

Price: $33

11. Central Park

✔ Another place that needs no introduction because it is world famous. It is the park by excellence in New York, you can spend a whole day in it.

🧭Central Park leaves the Upper East Side on one side and the Upper West Side on the other.

📍You can enter the park from a lot of places because it has many entrances. I suggest you the Grand Army Plaza entrance to the south of the park.

🌭 Eat a Hotdog in Nathan's Famous

12. Free Ferry to Staten Island

✔ If you want to see Manhattan from the distance and at the same time see the Statue of Liberty, my suggestion would be to take the Ferry to Staten Island (which is free). There are ferry's every 30 minutes. You'll need to go down in Staten Island and take the next ferry back to Manhattan.

🧭Downtown or Lower Manhattan

📍South Street and Whitehall Street.

13. Charging Bull

✔ It is the famous Wall St. bull that is said to bring prosperity to the financial markets.

✔ At certain times of the day there can be quite a queue to take a photo of its front (with its horns rising towards the sky as a sign of prosperity).

The rear photo (i.e. of the noble parts of the animal) is less in demand, although they say that it is good luck to touch the 🥚 bull's.

🧭Downtown or Lower Manhattan

📍Broadway and Morris St.

14. 9/11 Memorial

✔ The Memorial is New York City's tribute to the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

✔ They are two large pools that are located on the site where the Twin Towers once stood.

🧭Downtown o Lower Manhattan

📍Intersection of Liberty Street and Greenwich Street.

15. Brooklyn Bridge

✔ The Brooklyn Bridge is another of the icons of the city.

✔ Walking its almost 2 km is a must when you visit New York. You can do it in either direction (everyone has a favorite route, mine from Brooklyn to Manhattan).

✔ Once you cross the bridge to Brooklyn to must stop by DUMBO. It's an area filled with restaurants, bars and boutiques. If you are looking for an iconic shot then you must head this point: 📍Washington Street.

✔ You'll also find one of the most beautiful views of Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan: you will need to go to Pebble Beach.

16. Chinatown, Little Italy and Soho District

Chinatown

✔As its name suggests, it is the Chinatown of New York.

✔Streets filled with stores to buy cheap fakes of luxury brand handbags, watches...etc. You will find this "market" mainly on Canal St.

🧭 Southeast of Manhattan, bordering Little Italy.

Little Italy

✔ It's New York's Italian neighborhood or what's left of it...because Chinatown has been eating the space of the Italians.

✔ Its main and almost unique artery is Mulberry St . Here you will find a variety of Italian restaurants of different prices and qualities.

🧭 North of Chinatown.

Soho

✔ It is the Manhattan neighborhood of young, hip New Yorkers. It has a quiet and chic atmosphere.

✔ In its small streets you will find a multitude of stores. From the big names to the most modest (but charming) stores have their place in this neighborhood.

✔ You will also find art galleries and a great diversity of restaurants.

✔ Cast iron buildings and fire escapes give the neighborhood its personality.

🧭 West of Little Italy

17. Times Square

✔ It's one of the most popular and known streets in the world. It's the triangular square formed by the intersection of Broadway Street and 7th Avenue and closing 42nd Street.

✔There's a very powerful energy that attracts you without realizing it and does not let you go out.

✔In Times Square it is quite difficult to focus your eyes on something in particular. There are so many stimuli you receive: light, color, smell...that you don't know where to look.

✔Here you will also find Broadway street with its numerous theaters.
